Chemicals management is a systematic approach that aims to reduce the risk associated with chemical hazards, throughout the chemical life cycle.
The Accredited Course in Chemicals Management is based around a holistic approach to chemicals management. It follows a step-by-step approach—from the initial identification of hazardous chemicals, through to control and management of waste.
This holistic approach is supported by the process known as the Chemicals Management Cycle of Change. The activities in each stage involve:
This course provides learners who regularly work with and are in contact of hazardous substances, an increased knowledge and understanding of the following topics:
Employees will learn and understand chemicals management change readiness, basic steps in building a chemicals management process, the purpose and importance of the manifest requirements, analysis of causes and gaps in managing chemicals, and hazard and risk assessment criteria.
To complete Chemwatch’s Accredited Course in Chemicals Management, the learner must complete four core units. A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of the course.
The units of competency are:
Six months. The course is self-paced and online so it is entirely up to the student to manage their own time to ensure they finish the course content and assessments before the end of the six months. The amount of time taken to complete this course will depend on the learners’ previous experience and skill level.

It is the responsibility of the learner to build more knowledge by reading the respective laws on what is relevant to their work/business. The course is accredited in Australia and uses GHS classification as the main source for hazard identification. However, the principles behind chemicals management training can be applied globally, such as inventory creation and risk management. The risk control approaches are also applied globally, i.e., Control Banding.
The course is Accredited by the Australian Government. Such accreditations are recognised by other governments around the world (as are university degrees, for example).
